A Thousand-and-One Thank You's!
Since the Thanksgiving holiday, we've been celebrating and treasuring the people and impact we're grateful for. And leading up to #GivingTuesday tomorrow, we've enjoyed recapping our journey and sharing our gratitude.
We are grateful for YOU! As you've donated, you've cared for the poor and sick. In following our journey, you've remembered and prayed for the work as it's being accomplished.
We know that we are not alone, that's something we are extremely thankful for!
In this final #GivingTuesday Post, we're sharing some encouraging details about how we've seen the health of many begin to improve...

Nitty-Gritty Grant-Proposal Details
The following is an excerpt from a proposal we recently completed. We want to give you a little behind-the-scenes look at some encouraging statistics we discovered while applying for a grant.
TOPIC: MEDICAL ASSESSMENTS
Since we started regular food relief and medical treatment, nobody in the five villages has died from starvation or acute malnutrition.
Between August 2022 and October 2023, we have conducted 340 nutrition status assessments on women with priority on grandmothers and pregnant women. Only 138 women had a normal nutritional status. 123 grandmothers and 79 pregnant women had Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM) making a total of 202 patients.
Out of these 202 patients, 52 grandmothers and 39 pregnant women have completely recovered at this time and regained their normal nutrition status through TCI medical staff intervention with Ready to Use Therapeutic Foods (RUTF) corn and powdered milk. Now, 36 grandmothers and 24 pregnant women are still in the SAM range and on course to recovery, while 35 grandmothers and 16 pregnant women (total 51) have improved from SAM range to Moderate Acute Malnutrition (MAM)* and their diets are being monitored.

Between August 2022 and October 2023, we have conducted 903 nutrition status assessments on children and diagnosed 530 children with severe acute malnutrition (SAM). Out of these 530, 142 children have completely recovered and regained their normal nutrition status through TCI medical staff intervention with Ready to Use Therapeutic Foods (RUTF), corn and powdered milk. 207 children are still in the SAM range and on course to recovery, while 181 children have improved from SAM range to moderate acute malnutrition (MAM) and their diets are being monitored.
Encouraging as these results are, they show that the amount of food needs to be increased at least in the short term. We know that the standard 25 kg bag of cornmeal per family per month provides one meal a day and is keeping everyone alive but malnutrition is still a problem. For people to THRIVE not just SURVIVE they need at least one more meal per day - an extra 25 kg per household, until a normal harvest is achieved.

It's a lot of reading, but it really shows why we are:
- So encouraged by the efforts you are helping to make possible.
- So expectant that more food and medical attention will help them weather this storm and sustainably thrive!

Quick Q&A with Sue & Frank
Sue and Frank Robb are two of the founding TCI board members
Who are some unsung Ugandan heroes who impact our work?
Ubaldo is an unsung hero! He was the one who initially sent us photographs and told us about the starving people of Karamoja!
How have you begun to live differently since starting TCI?
We spend money differently. We're more intentionally grateful for every meal. And we've grown a LOT in believing and resting in God for provision for what He's purposed!
What do you see God doing beyond the obvious impact?
What's less obvious is that the Karamojong have hope! They aren't just waiting around to die. The hope that exists there now is just so tangible - we receive reports about this a lot!
What's your favorite aspect of working on TCI together?
In the early days after coming to God, He put in us both a heart for the poor. Working on TCI has given us the gift of experiencing what we want to do for the rest of our lives.
What do you dream of TCI looking like in 10 years?
Being a self-supporting and mostly Ugandan-run organization. Young visionaries carrying the torch forward in Uganda and the USA.
How can someone help in addition to donating?
They can pray and encourage us on! Volunteering (like Charlotte who oversees the sponsorship program, Charlie with liquidations, and more). Lastly, make others aware of the opportunity to join us in this work.

#GivingTuesday is Tomorrow!
Tomorrow is the big day! You can help us reach our $40,000 #GivingTuesday goal! This goal will help us be financially fit to continue our work into 2024!
Some of the most recent and encouraging work has been in Eastern Uganda! We took 5,000 people under our care, providing food and hands-on medical attention. Would you help us keep this work going?
Here are final two stories of our 10-story series!
The work we get to do together surely surfaces very sobering realities: the suffering of people, the lack of resources, and the world not as it should be...
But in the face of all of that, we've been able to see immense joy when receiving the gifts you helped provide: clapping, jumping, singing, smiles, and music!

A Special "Thank You" Video from Karamoja
Watch a very sweet and joyful 1-minute video from a Karamojong village to you for your support! Both young and old, you can see a lightness and excitement about them...
This is the tangible hope that Sue & Frank mentioned in the above Q&A! They share their gratefulness for the "gardens, food, and gospel". (The video is translated by Isaac)
